Spring Learning Adventures

Students with autism at Birchtree’s day school are enjoying a spring full of learning adventures! Please join us in giving a big THANK YOU to the generous donors whose recent gifts are making these opportunities possible…

students selling items to staff at Birchtree's school store — Students learn job skills while working as clerks and cashiers at The Nook, Birchtree's student-run school store. Funds from the 2025 Seacoast Half Marathon helped underwrite renovations to the store, including new store countertops and cabinets.

cabinets & counters in Birchtree's Life Skills Area — In our Life Skills Area, students learn to cook, clean, do laundry, and maximize their independence. Our friends at Property Essentials LLC generously donated their professional services to install beautiful new cabinets in this area (purchased with funds from the Seacoast Half Marathon).

student working one-on-one with a teacher in a small classroom; staff gathering in a shared office — This winter we added an additional small classroom to our day school, thanks to generous contributions from the Getz Charitable Trust, Citizens Bank, N.A., Trustee, and from the Seacoast Half Marathon. We also expanded a staff office to make space for the new classroom and to allow for closer collaboration within our behavior team. These renovations are allowing Birchtree to welcome new students and to better meet the needs of all our students with autism.

van for student transportation; student volunteering at a nonprofit; student exercising at a local gym — Generous donations at our Benefit for Learning Auction, on Giving Tuesday, and from the Seacoast Half Marathon allowed us to purchase a 12-passenger van this winter. Students travel in this van with their instructors to enjoy hands-on learning and exercise in the real world. This includes developing job skills while volunteering at Seacoast ArtSpot, shopping for groceries at local stores, exercising at Atlantic Gymnastics, and fishing at the Walter Burns Fishing Day.
